Anne Marie Idrac, secreatry of state of ministry of industry, economy and employement of france visists Cambodia

France fosters trade, agriculture and investment with Cambodia

Dr. Sok An, deputy prime minister in charge of council of ministers of Cambodia and visiting Anne Marie Idrac, secretary of state for ministry of industry, economy and employment of France in charge of external trade on June 10 presided over the inauguration ceremony of Golden Rice Mill of Udong district in Kompong Speu province. The factory is financed and invested by French side to foster export of the high quality of milled rice product from Cambodia to French and international markets.
“We need the high quality of milled rice product from Cambodia , and this rice mill fosters the rice product to the outside markets,’ Anne said. “This factory is invested from French side to produce high quality of rice products to aim international markets and we are potential of rice products,” Dr Sok An said. Cambodia produced over 7 million tons of rice products and surplus of over 3 million tons for exports this year.
Seng Thoeurn, head of administration of Golden rice ( Cambodia ) Ltd said that this factory is a Cambodian rice milling company specialized in exporting high quality rice products since 2009. It equipped with state of the art equipment, and with its devoted professional staff, golden rice Cambodia is committed to satisfying the world with the perfect taste of Cambodia rice. “Golden rice ( Cambodia ) has the capacity to process more than 100,000 tons of paddy rice per year,” he said, adding that although we focus on milled rice, our company is consistently looking for ways of diversifying its activities and researching innovative use of rice –related products, such as husk and bran. The energy used in factory is provided by our own husk power generation system.

The report from Golden Rice said that the factory compound of 40 hectares boasts a fully automated, sophisticated rice milling and product plant, drying machines and modern silo storage system of paddy rice, an on-site administration office coupled with a sophisticated laboratory to conduct quality control and rice sampling tests. It continued that it has modern dormitories and on-site canteen for staff and guest, and a spacious park, its own eco-friendly husk power generating system.

“Golden rice ( Cambodia ) com .Ltd td can provide a wide range of products, including premium jasmine rice, fragrant rice and regular white rice. Our rice can be packed in containers of 24 tons, big bags of 1 tons, bags of 5-50 kg, and bags of 1-10 kg,” it added.

“the rice products from Golden Rice export worldwide, including Asia, Africa, as well as Europe and the USA, it said, adding that the company registered with social capital of 4.5 million US dollars, and more investor from soresum group (Societe reunion de Supermarche) which controls Leclerc reunion, one of the leading mass distribution companies in France. And proparco, a French development financial institution partly held by the French development agency (AFD) is financing US 7 million dollars in industrial investment, while paddy purchasing is funded by prominent French commercial banks.

It noted that and the factory provided about 200 directs jobs of young technicians and engineers, and thousands of young villagers contributing to the construction of the factory, and hundreds of thousands of rice growers’ families and small rice collectors and It starts operational business in 2009 and the factory is located inn Khsem Khsan commune, Udong district in Kompong Speu Province.
A separate case, visiting Anne Marie Idrac on June 9 discussed with secretary general of the council for development of Cambodia to strengthen bilateral cooperation in term of trade, investment, tourism and agriculture. At the same time, the businesspeople from French side and the commerce chamber of Cambodia exchanges views about the investment climate and its potentials. “French side also provided the white book on French investment and Cambodia markets. Both sides also signed the technical cooperation and helps speed up the capacity building for Cambodia , the statement from French embassy said. While staying in Phnom Penh on June 10, Anne also took a trip to see the luxury SOFITEL Phnom Penh Phokeetra which is joint venture from French, Cambodian and Thai investors. Didier Lamoot, general manger of Sofitel could not reveal the amount of the investment from French side. But the hotel will open in November this year,” Lamoot told reporters at construction site of hotel along Tonle Bassac river near Russian embassy in Phnom Penh . He added that the cost of a room will charge about 2,500 US dollar and it has in all about 201 rooms. Sofitel is second hotel after Accor that invested from French investors. French TOTAL Oil Company is a leading of Oil Company in exploration at offshore of Cambodia .
Cambodia exported France worth about 82 million Euros in 2008 and increased to 83 Million Euro in 2009 and the investment from France in Cambodia increased 91 million Euro in 2008 from 75 million Euros in 2006. Anne visited here for three days from 9-11 June to strengthen the fruitful cooperation between two countries and before she departed from Cambodia . She visited hotel school “Paul Dubrule” in Siem Reap which supported from French development agency. Cambodia is a member of Francophone countries and French –Cambodian relation are good ties. She visited here according to the imitative of the meeting between Samdech Techo Prime Minister Hun Sen and French president Nicolas Sarkozy while Samdech visited French in 2009. In November 1-7, it has an event of week of France in Phnom Penh , the statement from French embassy said. ###
