Phnom Penh authority grants licensing for Malaysian Company to recycle rubbish

Phnom Penh Municipality Hall on April 11 granted the licensing for Malaysian company to recycle rubbish and waste in the city to transform as energy and fertilizers for agricultural crops, and reduce the pile of litters at the landfill at the outskirt of the city.

Kep Chupmeta, Phnom Penh Governor said that the city hall provided the permission letter to Malaysian company Core Competencies to conduct the survey for three months periods before the investment project come into effect.
“We want them to seek chance to earn benefit before investment because in the past it had many companies granted the licensing right to invest on converting the litter in city into energy but we have failed many times,” he noted.

He added that currently the rubbish in the city rose to 1200 tone in a day and for this matter, we need to deal it and need to refine them for the benefits. Everyday, the rubbish and waste was transported to damp at the scavenging field at the outskirts of the city without transforming into something.
The city has more development and growth both infrastructure, human resources and materials with remarkable views and also there are more population increasing every day and has more rubbish and waste which need to develop into energy and fertilizers.

“It is a good opportunity for the Malaysian company that received the licensing rights for recycling rubbish. And the city hall also needs the good partners to work together and push to success for all sides, governor noted.

“We need the good partners in collecting rubbish from the households in city and roads and other places and have capacity to manage them effectively to match with real situation of city and its development and growth in present time, he emphasized. “We need a good standard for recycling the rubbish and waste to reduce size of damping field that increased everyday and ease smell of rubbish that affected to health of the people” he added.

Mr. Mohamed Ariffinhjaton, chairman of Core Competencies said that after we granted this rights, we will conduct the survey basing on the techniques and experience in Malaysia to contribute to recycle the rubbish in the city and provide the benefits for setting up electricity power and fertilizer. At the same time, the company will research with attention to reduce using the gasoline for creating electricity power.

“After our survey and study, we will invest in steps because it is the first time that our company comes to invest here to invest in recycling rubbish,” he said, adding that we need good cooperation between the city hall and my side to speed up the work to get success for all. We will delay this project after we gained the rights, he stresses.

In the past year, Phnom Penh city hall terminated the agreement with German Company after it did not follow and implement the agreement in processing of recycling the rubbish.

A student namely Kim Leng, living near Olympic expressed his impression when asking about the litter recycling. He said that it reduces the smell from litters and waste that has been pouring on the corner of the road in front of his house. “I meet difficulties of breathing because smell flows touching my nose. Even the cleaners putting the rubbish bin at the place, but sometime, the publics did not put the rubbish inside it, they threw the rubbish nearby and that is all. It also made difficulties to collect them, he noted. ###
