Japan supports over 8 million US dollars for Khmer Rouge tribunal

Japan has pledged to provide 8.62 million US dollar for the Khmer Rouge court to process its work, the statement from the Japanese embassy here said.

“Japan has decided to support approximately US$8.62 million of contribution to the ECCC for the years 2010/11--- -approximately US$2.9 million pledged for the international component in addition to approximately US$3,47 million already disbursed in March 2010, as well as approximately US$2.26 million announced for the national component,” it added.

It said that in the pledging conference on 25th May, 2010 in NY, for the budget request (2010-11) for Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), Japan has announced the following contribution, taking into account the importance of the ECCC.

“Japan has been actively supporting the progress of the Khmer Rouge Tribunal, considering that the Tribunal contributes to the realization of the justice and the reconciliation of Cambodian people,” it noted. ###
