Cambodia builds new brewery with 60 million US dollar investment

The private company namely “Chip Mong” broke the ground to open the brewery factory in Dorng Kor district in western part of Phnom Penh with 60 million US dollar investment. Its name Khmer Brewery Company will help contribute the promotion of Khmer product.

Leng Khon, director general of Chip Mong Company said that the company will enable to produce from one to two million hectoliter annually with using the German technology.
We will be completely finished the construction in 15 months,” he said.

“The project will use the local materials, production chain, and package with local raw materials with high technology from foreign countries,” he said, adding that it will identify with Khmer product.

In the establishment of the factory, we will join with other brewery factories which are in raid growth of the product and we will produce with international standard to serve our customers and could be a leading product in the markets,” he said, adding that it will be a company that do not have foreign share in the country. We will make our effort to join with the government to have the local product to implement the demand gap in the local market and it could be possible to export the foreign markets in the future,” he said.

“This is a show that private sector has confidence with the government policy and it will have contribute to reduce poverty and provide the jobs for local people and contribute the economic growth of the country,” said H.E Men Samon, permanent deputy prime minister.

“It also will play a key role in promotion and develop industry and trade, and produce the product with high standard to serve both local customers and foreigners. It is pride of the local people that have the local factory to produce the products,” she said.

Currently, Cambodia has few brewery companies producing the beer and drinks as well as wine imported from the foreign country. The brewery companies have run the business operation with the foreign share. Local demand of the drinks and beers is still high for the local market and most people like drinking beer or wine during the parties and marriage wedding parties. It did not have any figure with the quantity that Cambodian people drink beer in one year with how much liter.

TV station also pays attention on beer advisement for benefit but more advertisement will attract the local people to drink beer and from this, it has some concern that drinking beer could create family violence and road accident from the drinking. Cambodia does not have law to punish the minor of underage of 18 years old to drink beer. Generally, local people could drink beer with their enjoyment in the party or occasion they attend.
